Question Keeping the cat out?

Well I have always wanted to have my own veggie garden and I finally moved into a place with a yard that would allow it a few months ago. I planted some seedlings and my cat dug them all up just to crap in there!

My mother in law said to put pepper all over it and it makes them sneeze and stay away. Well I tried white pepper and black and it didn't work.

Does anyone have a way to keep him out? Without killing him of course.

Mothballs? Do I put them in the garden or throw them at him?

Mum had to look after him for a while when I moved interstate and didn't want him on her new lounge. She used to squirt him with a water pistol and he learnt not to go on there. I can't really keep guard on the garden though with a water pistol.

You just lay the mothballs out on the ground of the garden, my folks do that because their neighbors have 3000000 cats and use their gardens for a litter box all the time!
They say it works, for me, I dont have any cats and the neighbors 15 acres come up here and I shoot them with the BB gun!!!
But my folks say the mothballs work great for them!
My dad also shoots them with a BB gun, however he is a truck driver so he is not always home!
Good luck!
Mommy

I've never heard of moth balls I'll have to try that one myself, I'm about to start growing vegetables in a garden where cats lurk and crap so I have to think about how I'm going to keep them away.
