Default Cactus turning brown and hard; Why?

Indoor cactus is turning hard, brown and woodish in some areas. I have moved and may have had a 'shock', or is it too much or not enough water?

thanks

How much have you been watering it? Most cacti only need to be watered once a month at most. Also it is possible that your pot is too small.

Default Hi Skyturtle. Nope, pot is not...

...too big and anyhow I heard that cacti like to be in 'tight' pots and a compacted mix of soil and sand. I am starting to think that it's an over watering problem that began in summer (we had a wet summer and it was always outdoor) and is starting to really show now.
Thanks.
